JUVENTUS REPORTEDLY AGREE TWO-TEAR CONTRACT WITH MEMPHIS DEPAY

According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Juventus have agreed on personal terms with Barcelona forward Memphis Depay over a summer move after multiple rounds of talk. The Dutch forward has just a year left on his contract with the La Liga giants and is in talks with them to terminate it to facilitate his free transfer to Juventus.

Memphis Depay moved to Barcelona last summer in a free transfer after running down his contract with Lyon and led their attack for the first half of the 2021/22 campaign. But the 28-year-old fell down the pecking order following the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres in the winter transfer window.

Barcelona have further strengthened their attack in the ongoing transfer window, signing Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. The Catalan giants are also in talks to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City. This will further deplete Depay’s game time, and he is thus eager to part ways.

Barcelona, too, need to make space in their squad and wage bill to register new signings and are expected to terminate Depay’s contract to facilitate the move amid negotiations between the two parties. There is optimism among those involved that an agreement will be reached soon.

The 28-year-old has now agreed on a two-year contract with Juventus, which will see him earn close to €5 million per season. The Serie A bigwigs, who have been in talks with Barcelona for a while, also added Angel Di Maria in the attacking department, who joined in a Bosman move this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

Depay’s time at Camp Nou has not been a failure by any means. The Dutch forward has made 36 appearances for them, scoring 13 goals and providing two assists in the process. He started the first 15 league matches for Barcelona, scoring eight goals in them.
